- Conduct a public hearing on its proposed 2024-25 budget and act on the budget during the regular meeting.

Homewood Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in the village board room, 2020 Chestnut Rd.

Monday, Sept. 23
Young Engineer’s Building Challenge #2 at the Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor, for kids age 7 to 18 who work with cubes, cups and craft sticks to create structures. Registration is at 708-798-3600.
Power of a Plant-Based Diet. From 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. Mary Ellen Pinzino will help participants “explore the power of a whole food, plant-based diet to prevent and reverse heart disease, diabetes, cancer and obesity.” The session is presented in conjunction with Vegging Out, the Homewood community initiative in support of a whole-food, plant-based diet. Tuesday, Sept. 24
Art in the Park at Leavitt Park in Flossmoor from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The H-F Park District is hosting the free program for kids of all ages to create outdoor-themed art projects.
Spice It Up! Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, offers adults a chance to make their own taco seasoning mix. This 6 p.m. program requires registration online or by calling April at 708-798-0121.
Wednesday, Sept. 25
The Divine 9 blood drive is from 2:30 to 7 p.m. at the Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood, as the sororities and fraternities mark Sickle Cell Month.

Oaktober Fest marking Flossmoor’s 100th anniversary. In Flossmoor Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be interactive workshops by the Chicago Region Trees Initiative and others focusing on sustainable living practices, organic gardening and native plantings. Kids activities are nature-themed. At the Flossmoor South Commuter Lot from 4 to 9 p.m. is Oaktoberfest Music Festival with DJ on hand, food and beverages available.
