Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights announced the appointment of alumnus Dr. Joe Zampillo as the school’s ninth principal for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year.

Zampillo comes to Marian Catholic with 28 years of experience in education, including 21 years in school administration. He currently is principal of Central Middle School in Evergreen Park.

The selection of Zampillo follows an extensive national search conducted in collaboration with Carney, Sandoe and Associates. The firm aimed to identify an exemplary and experienced educational leader who aligns with the values and aspirations of the Marian Catholic community.

The process included gathering input from the community through surveys and listening sessions to determine the qualities desired in the next leader. The internal search committee, composed of individuals from various facets of the Marian Catholic community, worked diligently to assess the candidates.

After thorough interviews and careful consideration, Zampillo was the candidate who exemplified the values and vision of Marian Catholic. During the interview process, he emphasized the importance of communication, collaborative relationships and leadership.

“I am thrilled at the opportunity of returning to serve the school community that has not only given me so much but continues to be a source of invaluable support,” he said. “This marks a significant full-circle moment for me.”

Zampillo’s enthusiasm to engage with the Marian Catholic community was also noted by President Vince Krydynski.
“When I called … Zampillo to offer him the position, one of the first questions he asked was how soon could he come to campus to begin meeting the faculty, staff, and students,” Krydynski said. “He understands the importance of building strong and honest relationships.”

The school will be organizing opportunities for the Marian Catholic community to meet and welcome Zampillo in the coming weeks.

After graduating in 1989 from Marian Catholic, Zampillo received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a master’s degree in educational leadership from DePaul University and a doctorate in interdisciplinary leadership from Governors State University.
