Franciscan Health Heart & Vascular Institute Olympia Fields echocardiography lab achieves accreditation

The Franciscan Health Heart & Vascular Institute Olympia Fields echocardiography lab has achieved accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (ICA) for adult transthoracic echocardiography.

Echocardiography (also known as echo) is a form of non-invasive imaging used to assess different areas of the heart which can detect heart disease or signs of serious conditions. Early detection of heart disease can be the difference between life and death and is key to developing a successful treatment plan.

“ICA accreditation guarantees quality echo imaging and reporting at the highest level for excellent patient care and outcomes,” said Dr. Kendra Marsh-Kates, medical director of the echo lab.

IAC accreditation follows an intensive application and review process and recognizes compliance with the published standards for demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care in echocardiography.

“I am very proud of our non-invasive cardiology team on this significant achievement,” said Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Director of Cardiology Services Charlie Rasmason. “From the cardiologists, echo sonographers and the leaders working together to achieve this goal, it truly was a collaborative effort.”

The IAC is a nonprofit, nationally recognized accrediting organization founded by medical professionals to advance appropriate utilization, standardization and quality of diagnostic imaging, interventional and therapeutic procedures.
