  1. The board will consider approving a letter of support for an Illinois Department of Transportation proposal to restripe Dixie Highway from Park Avenue to just north of Sycamore Drive
  2. Chief of Police Denise McGrath will present information regarding the recently purchased Axon cameras and software used for policing purposes. 
  3. Hannale Nelson will take the oath of office for the position of police department records supervisor. 
  4. The board will consider approving a resolution appropriating $650,000 of Motor Fuel Tax funds to cover street patching for the period of May 1, 2024, to April 30, 2025.

Thornton Township Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 333 E. 162nd St. in South Holland.

Monday, Feb. 26

Youth Dance Open House. H-F Park District will host an open house from 5 to 5:30 p.m. at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. for kids aged 3 to 6 to meet the district’s new dance instructor, Michele Ritacco. Kids can dance with her and ask questions after the lesson. Children should wear clean gym shoes or ballet shoes. Comfortable clothing is highly recommended.

Tuesday, Feb. 27

African folktales. Oba the Poetic Storyteller presents: The Eagles Who Thought They Were Chickens Stories and Folktales from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. Oba William King will tell African folktales. Children under 9 years old must have an adult caregiver stay with them at the program.

Wednesday, Feb. 28

D161 kindergarten registration. Flossmoor School District 161 will hold kindergarten registration for the 2024-25 school year from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at each elementary school: Flossmoor Hills, 3721 Beech St., 708-647-7100; Heather Hill, 1439 Lawrence Crescent, 708-647-7200; Serena Hills, 255 Pleasant Drive, Chicago Heights, 708-647-7300; and Western Avenue, 940 Western Ave., 708-647-7400.

Leap Day Brewmaster Dinner. Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery Chef Chris Ball and Brewmaster Jake LaDuke will host a special dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. at 1035 Sterling Ave. Paired dishes with craft beer for $85. Tickets available here.

Saturday, March 2

STEM Saturday. The Homewood Science Center’s weekly STEM play and learn event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 18022 Dixie Highway.

Sunday, March 3

Hipster Popstar Paint Party. Bottle & Bottega, 2009 Ridge Road, will host. Listen to music and make your own art. Tickets available here.
