Volunteers collecting Items for three helping agencies

The 2024 celebration of Martin Luther King holiday will have volunteers working for the betterment of others.  If you can’t give a few hours of your time, donations to helping organizations is always welcome.

In Homewood, volunteers will be collecting items for Anew: Building Beyond Violence and Abuse working with those affected by domestic violence; Respond Now offering assistance with food, health services and housing needs; and South Suburban Humane Society shelter for homeless dogs and cats.

What is collected from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 15, at the Homewood Village Hall (west entrance), 2020 Chestnut Road, will be sorted later by students at James Hart School in Homewood.

The list of items needed follows:

Anew

Non-perishable food items, individually wrapped snacks for children, full-sized (new and unused) personal hygiene items, feminine products, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, African American hair products, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, lotion.

Also, household items, including napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, plastic plates and cups, garbage bags, soap, detergent, disinfectant spray, all-purpose cleaner, AA and AAA batteries; gift cards for Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Jewel, Meijer, gas stations.

Non-perishable food items, new and unused personal hygiene items: feminine hygiene products, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, lotions, chapstick; hand warmers.

Paper towels, hand soap, bleach, 8.5X11 copy paper, non-clumping cat litter, foil steam trays (used as litter pans), canned pate cat food, Purina Puppy Chow, disposable gloves, 55-gallon garbage bags, Purina Cat/Kitten Chow, large rugs, blankets and towels, Kongs, and gift cards to Walmart, Costco, OfficeMax, Amazon.com.
