Chicago teen arrested in Flossmoor carjacking

A Chicago teen, formerly of Flossmoor, was arrested and charged by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office with aggravated vehicular hijacking involving a firearm.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Flossmoor Police Department was dispatched to the 3000 block of Vollmer Road for a radio call of an armed vehicular hijacking that occurred in a local business parking lot.

While officers were enroute to the call for service, they learned that the suspect who fled in the stolen vehicle was involved in a crash at Vollmer Road and Crawford Avenue.

Victims from the vehicle crash were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim in the vehicular hijacking was not injured during the incident and was treated by medical personnel.

Flossmoor officers continued to investigate the incident and determined the suspect was involved in another single-vehicle crash on Lincoln Highway in Matteson.

Officers from Olympia Fields and Matteson assisted Flossmoor officers with locating and detaining the suspect, Amir Aziz, 19.

Officers recovered a firearm from Aziz upon detainment. An eyewitness of the vehicular hijacking positively identified Aziz as the individual from the vehicular hijacking incident, police said.

Aziz was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and remained in custody following his release from the hospital.

Flossmoor Police Department Chief Jerel Jones offered thanks to the Olympia Fields Police Department, Matteson Police Department and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance with this investigation.
