Food drive Sept. 9 at St John Neumann

The parish of St. John Neumann in Homewood will sponsor a food drive on Saturday, Sept. 9, for the “Neighbors in Need” program sponsored by Catholic Charities.

Donations of food will be accepted from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the church’s north parking lot at 17951 Dixie Highway. This will be a “pop-the-trunk” drive that will not require donors to exit their cars.

Mary Ellen Brabec, an organizer for the food drive, said the Catholic Charities pantry located at St. Ireneaus Church in Park Forest has a great need for canned peaches, pineapple and mandarins. Also, cream style corn, pasta, potato or rice side dishes, diced tomatoes, pasta sauce, cereal, grits and muffin mix are welcome.

Monetary donations via check to Catholic Charities are also accepted.

“We know our H-F community will be generous with their donations,” Brabec said, “and I thank everyone in advance.”
