Golf numbers continue their upward swing at Coyote Run

Golf has continued to be the leader in revenue for the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District.

“It’s easy when you have a good product to sell,” said Tom Denklau who reported to park commissioners nearly $500,000 in revenue from all sources connected with Coyote Run Golf Course in Flossmoor for the month of June.

Denklau said the golf rounds have increased from 2022. The numbers are for weekday hours and weekday twilight, weekend day, midday ad twilight hours, super twilight, outings and leagues. Year-to-date totals were 15,808 rounds played.

Denklau said sales at Wiley’s Grill at Coyote Run and Wiley’s service at Lions Pool and The Clubhouse have also been increasing.

In his report, Denklau said June weather was ideal “with only one rain day.” Coyote Run averages 225 players a day, for a 2.5% increase over 2022. Revenue from greens fees was up 17.1%. Denklau pointed to the increase in rounds for that increase, plus a rate increase and the elimination of barter rounds after the 2022 season.

“We continue to beat the national average of a 15% increase of rounds over pre-COVID averages,” he reported. “The highlight of the month was 301 rounds played on Monday, June 19, and we had 11 days with more than 240 rounds.”

Denklau said July is showing strong numbers, despite the rain.

While the golf numbers and revenue are outstanding, Denklau told the park board that he needed to have work done when the compressor for the main freezer at Wiley’s failed, and the fan motor on the dining room HVAC unit went out on the July 4 holiday.

The Wiley’s staff is crowded in its space, despite adjustments by manager Shari Klein. More prep work areas and storage would be helpful.
