The Village of Flossmoor canceled its National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 2. In an online message to residents, organizers said the event was canceled out of “concern among law enforcement.”
“The village places a high priority on providing safe, family-friendly events that bring us together as a community … we did not want to place our guests, especially our younger guests, in a stressful environment,” the message read.
National Night Out has become an annual event in Flossmoor. This year, kids were to have a chance to enjoy Touch-A-Truck as the village brought out its heavy equipment for young ones to see up close.
The village’s message encouraged residents to do their own celebration.
“In place of this community celebration, please consider making a kind gesture or sending a nice note to the members of our police, fire, and public works departments,” the message read.
