A vacant lot at Dixie Highway and Hickory Road might soon be the site for a new mixed-use downtown Homewood development.

At the regular board meeting Tuesday, Homewood trustees will consider approving a letter of intent with developer Townes Glaser that plans to build on the site that was once home to Savoia T’Go restaurant. The project would also replace Independence Park.

The village bought the property at 18138 Dixie Highway in 2015 and razed the restaurant building. The proposed development would fit with the village’s goal of encouraging transit-oriented projects in the downtown area, according to Economic Development Director Angela Mesaros.

Trustees also will consider an application to the Community Development Block Grant program for funding to replace a sewer lift station that was built in the 1960s on the village’s east side.

The grant request for $324,000 will include a 3% match from the village of $9,720. The lift station serves the only census tract in the village that qualifies for CDBG funding, according to village officials.

In other business, the board will:

  • Consider changing the license fees for video gaming to comply with changes to state law.
  • Witness the oath of office for three staff members: Village Manager Napoleon Haney, Assistant Village Manager Justine Bruno and Water Billing Clerk Nerissa Major.
  • Approve annual reports from the Beautification Committe, the Firefighters Pension Board, the Police Pension Board and the Tree Committee.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the village hall board room, 2020 Chestnut Road.

The meeting also can be attended remotely by visiting https://zoom.us. Select: “join a meeting” from the menu at top right corner of the page. Use meeting ID 980 4907 6232 and password 830183.
