Homewood trustees to hold public hearing on proposed Kedzie Gateway TIF district

The Homewood Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, in the board room at village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road, to allow public comment and questions on a proposed tax increment financing district along Kedzie Avenue and 183rd Street.

The TIF district on the village’s west side would include 33 acres and 28 parcels of land. One property the village is eager to see redeveloped, the former Brunswick Zone bowling alley, is within the boundaries of the district.

In other business, the board will consider:

  • A memorandum of understanding with East Hazel Crest that will grant Homewood’s neighbor six months to evaluate the possibility of purchasing water from Homewood.
  • Awarding a bid for sidewalk repairs along sections of 12 streets to mitigate tripping hazards. The project is budgeted for no more than $50,000.
  • An ordinance inviting alternative bids on the property at 18225 Dixie Highway, the site of the now-demolished Bogarts Charhouse. The village has an interested developer but is required to offer an opportunity for other parties to submit bids.
  • An endorsement for a preferred developer, the Daly Group, to help create a casino in Homewood and East Hazel Crest if the Illinois Gaming Board awards the villages the south suburban casino license. The Daly Group would work with Wind Creek, the firm that will own and operate the facility.
  • A seven-month contract extension with grant writer Paul A. Zaremba.
  • Reappointing Levi Glass to the Police and Fire Commission.

The meeting will be held in-person but will also be accessible remotely. Anyone can submit comments by email to [email protected] or by placing written comments in the drop box outside village hall. Comments submitted before 4 p.m. on the meeting date will be distributed to all board members prior to the meeting.
