The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that resurfacing of Dixie Highway from Chicago Road (Illinois 1) in Chicago Heights to 183rd Street in Homewood, passing through Flossmoor, will require daily, intermittent lane closures that began Monday, May 3.
The $3.1 million project consists of resurfacing the 3.5-mile stretch of Dixie Highway and constructing new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps.
Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction, which is expected to be completed in late October.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
