Residents will be allowed to address the Homewood Village Board when it meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, but the village issued a notice Monday reminding residents about the rules used for public comment during board meetings.
Officials are expecting residents to come forward to address four ordinances on the agenda regarding the redevelopment of the former Calumet Country Club. Persons making a comment must provide their name in writing before entering village hall. Following CDC guidelines, there will be limited capacity in the board room to maintain social distancing. Everyone entering village hall must wear a mask covering their mouth and nose.
Due to building capacity limits, the public is strongly encouraged to submit comments before the meeting and listen to the meeting via Zoom or dial-in.
Actions on the country club property will be on the agenda under New Business. That portion of the meeting will open with a short presentation on the rezoning petition. The village will be following rules set out by ordinance that allow for 30 minutes for public comment. Each person will have three minutes to speak.
The board will vote on the items after public comments.
In a posted statement, the village staff said: “The practice for previous Board of Trustee meetings has been to give the public the opportunity to only view and listen to the meeting via Zoom. Public comments were not heard from those participating via Zoom during past village board meetings and the same practice will apply to the March 9 meeting.”
During the “hear from the audience” portion of the meeting, members of the public are invited to comment on issues that are not on the agenda. Thirty minutes are allotted for this public comment period with each speaker granted three minutes to speak.
The meeting is accessible via Zoom, as allowed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s Executive Order 2020-07 and Section 7(e) of the Illinois Open Meetings Act.
Persons may submit written comments to the trustees by email at [email protected] or by leaving written comments in the dropbox in front of the village hall. All comments received by 4 p.m. Tuesday will be distributed to all trustees. The Zoom access and dial-in numbers are:
