The Cancer Support Center will host its 29th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, Sept. 14, at Idlewild Country Club, 19201 Dixie Highway. The event will feature former White Sox catcher and Baseball Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk.
The event will include 18 holes of golf, an after party barbecue, silent auction, ball drop fundraiser and musical entertainment.
The cost for this event is $225 for individual golfers and includes golf, drinks and dinner. After party dinner tickets only are available for $60. Registration begins at noon and tee time starts at 1 p.m.
Golfers will be ensured a safe, outdoor, socially distanced dinner and after party that begins at 5:30 p.m. The party will feature an open bar, silent auction which includes a stay at the Cinnamon Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida, raffles and live entertainment by Justin Owens Griffins.
The Cancer Support Center continues providing free programs and services to participants impacted by cancer, even during the challenging times of COVID-19. CSC never discontinued services during this time and provides extensive virtual, online and phone conference programming and counseling. The center is currently open during limited hours for wig appointments and emergency walk-ins.
“What a year 2020 has been. Our cancer patients have been facing even more challenges due to the pandemic and we have shifted all of our programs virtually to provide care,” said Executive Director Sue Armato. “Even with this increased demand for care, raising funds has been a challenge. Yet with this amazing golf outing, we will raise essential funds to keep our center going. A shout out to our golf attendees and sponsors – we cannot do it, especially now, without you all.”
As a result of the pandemic, the center has been unable to maintain fundraising goals and relies on the generous donations from the community to ensure their doors will remain open.
CSC Board director and golf committee member Joe Kuchta said, “The golf outing is one of our marquee events every year and this year, now more than ever, it’s more important that we make this event spectacular. There are other events that the center has been unable to hold, which means that revenue is not able to be generated for CSC’s programs and services we serve to the community. We’re hoping that we can get a lot of people to support.”
This year, local industry leader Mi-Jack Products will be sponsoring a Ball Drop fundraiser. Numbered balls will be dropped from a Mi-Jack crane. The closest ball to the pin wins gift cards valued at $250. Balls can be purchased for $20 per ball or $100 for six balls. This portion of the event will be livestreamed on Facebook. Participants in the Ball Drop need not be in attendance.

Their holistic approach for cancer patients, their families, caregivers and even medical staff is second to none.”
The Cancer Support Center gives strength, guidance and support to anyone living with a cancer diagnosis, as well as to their loved ones. The center is a community-based, volunteer-driven, donor-supported organization. Programs, resources and services are delivered by professional therapists, counselors, nutritional educators and experts. The center has two locations, 19645 S. LaGrange Road, Mokena and 2028 Elm Road, Homewood.
