St. Joseph Church is hosting a food and clothing donations drive on Saturday, May 30, for the “Neighbors in Need” program sponsored by Catholic Charities.
Donations of food for Catholic Charities and clothing for the Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) program in the South Suburbs will be accepted from 9 to 11 a.m. in the church’s north parking lot at 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood. This will be a “pop-the-trunk” drive that will not require any direct contact between volunteers and donors.
Mary Ellen Brabec said the food drive will benefit the South Regional Office of Catholic Charities, which is seeing an increase in need because of people struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The regional office pantry is in need of canned vegetables and soups, dry cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, pasta and pasta sauce, rice, macaroni and cheese, tuna and canned fruit and fruit juice.
The South Suburban PADS team is in need of clothing for children ages 1 to 7, women’s wear sizes large and XL and men’s clothing sizes L, XL and XXL.
“We know our H-F community will be generous with their donations,” Brabec said, “and I thank everyone in advance.”
