Homewood Heights Baseball Club has joined the effort to gather shoes for needy communities around the world through the Sole to Soul project, which helps micro-entrepreneurs in developing countries get out of poverty.

The club joined the initiative before Thanksgiving and began accepting donations of new and gently worn shoes, according to club officer Jhames Holley.

“It has been a good way to show our children the power of giving and to be grateful for what they have,” he said.

So far, the club has donated three bags with approximately 75 pairs of shoes. The goal is to donate 200 pairs by March 1.

Shoes can be dropped off at Churchill Elementary School, 1300 190th St. in Homewood, during school hours, and at Homewood Heights Winter Workouts on Wednesday evenings at Bloom High School’s Field House, 101 W. 10th St., Chicago Heights.
