Flossmoor Community Church will hold its second annual Community House Fest on Saturday, Aug. 31, to benefit the Flossmoor Community House. The festivities will run from 5 to 10 p.m. at 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. There will be food, beverages, activities for all ages and live music.
Food at Community House Fest will be provided by Say Cheese, The Sunshine Kitchen, Nikki Rae’s Sandwiches and Kona Ice.
Drink vendors will include Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Rabid Brewing and Lassen’s Tap.
Music will be provided by one-man band and event co-organizer MG Bailey and the up and coming band TiMELeSS.
For kids, there will be a bouncy house, a bubble display and face painting.
Money raised from the event will help the church with maintenance costs of the community house. The space is a gathering place that hosts a wide variety of events and special occasions, including parties, fundraisers, weddings, memorials, concerts, support groups and charitable causes, many not associated with the church or even with religion.
Event co-organizer Brooke King-LaBreck said the building’s importance to the community and the congregation means resources are needed to keep it well maintained.
King-LaBreck remembers a major renovation project led by her father, Doug King, in the late 1980s. The project saved the building from demolition, and King-LaBreck said the church wants to insure the community house never falls into disrepair again.
Sponsors also include John Flynn Baird & Warner, Tozer Law Office, Jonathan Kane Salon & Spa, FCC Weekday Preschool, CW Kneeland Glass, A Piece of the Pie and Leland Grove Law.
