Three local activist groups are planning a vigil from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Irwin Park, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood.

Lights for Liberty is sponsored by Action for a Better Tomorrow South Suburbs, Indivisible South Suburbs Chapter and Dems on the Move.

ABT co-founders Lia Oldaker, Annie Lawrence and Danielle Nolan-Ragland issued a statement as part of the event announcement.

“We pledge to show solidarity for migrants and refugee families being housed in abhorrent and even deadly conditions where they are neglected, abused, separated from their own family members and where some have perished under these inhumane circumstances.

“We will say the names of those who have died, read testimonials from migrant children, and demonstrate our unwillingness to be silent and to look away in the midst of these crimes and the suffering happening in our own country and state.”

They urge participants to bring signs. Candles and holders will be provided.
