Fire pit, taproom make debut at Friday’s Pre-Dark Lord Festival

To craft beer enthusiasts, it’s known as “pDLD.”
They know that Flossmoor Station’s Pre-Dark Lord Day is a once-a-year chance to taste beers from local brewers around the Midwest. It’s also an opportunity to sample “Wooden Hell,” which has been called the brewery’s “most infamous” product.
Hours of Pre-Dark Lord Day are 4 p.m. to midnight Friday, May 17, at Flossmoor Station, 1035 Sterling Ave.
The annual festival includes craft beer and food sales, beer bottle exchanges and other special events for attendees. New this year is Flossmoor Station’s recently revamped beer garden, which includes a taproom in the existing caboose, dog park and fire pit.
Flossmoor Station co-owner Dean Armstrong said the fire pit will “allow craft beer lovers to enjoy some of our small-batch craft brews long into the cool evening.”
The day also marks this year’s only release of Wooden Hell. First released in 2006, Wooden Hell 2019 is a 9.5 percent alcohol-by-volume barleywine that has been aged nine months in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels. The tapping and bottle sales will begin at 4 p.m.
In past years, craft beer lovers have lined up on Sterling Avenue long before the start of the festival and Wooden Hell is a prized attraction at the festival.
All bottle sales are cash only.
