Christmas night vandals deface Homewood’s downtown

South Suburban Special Recreation Association (SSSRA), which services residents in the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, is in need of part-time employees for several of its programs. SSSRA offers recreation for special needs persons ages 2 through adult who participate in programs as varied as music and drama to Special Olympics and recreation programs. “In addition to SSSRA’s own programming, individuals can participate in park district and recreation department programs with the assistance of an inclusion aide,” said Anna Broccolo, public relations manager for SSSRA.  Persons interested in working for SSSRA will help fill inclusion . . .

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
