Homewood police announced Tuesday that a 19-year-old Chicago Heights man has been charged with first degree murder in connection with the shooting death Saturday, Sept. 1, of Romane D. Taylor Jr.Johnny Johnson, of the 100 block of Sue Street, was slated to appear in bond court Tuesday. He did not shoot Taylor, according to the police description of the incident, but was involved in an attempted armed robbery during which Taylor was killed.Police said Johnson and a partner, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Taylor, 17, also of Chicago Heights, lured . . .

Monday, July 4

  • Homewood 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, then follows Ridge Road to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
  • Flossmoor 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and ends downtown, where there will be fun activities.
