Ojode has lived in the district for six years.  He serves as the director of financial reporting for the YMCA at its national resource office in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. He handles the books and monthly reporting and prepares financial statements for the governing board. The Chicago office coordinates programs and operations for the 2,700 YMCAs across the country.

As treasurer Ojode will take on responsibility for reviewing the park district’s financial statements. He said his professional work has been in the nonprofit realm, so taking on the park district position won’t be difficult.

“The park district has a very good financial office and seems to be very effective,” he said having reviewed financial statements for the past two years.  “They’re right on top of it.”

Ojode and his wife, Linda, have two sons. They have enjoyed using the Lions Pool and his older son is in the Extra Innings after-school program. In winter they enjoy ice skating at the Ice Arena.

A native of Kenya, Ojode came to the United States for graduate school. He earned a master’s degree in finance and international business from North Park University and is a certified public accountant.

He is replacing Howard Blumstein who resigned Oct. 17 after having served as treasurer for 14 years, according to Debbie Kopas, the park district’s executive director.

“Howard has been a great supporter of the park district, having served on the Leisure Services Committee prior to being appointed treasurer. We thank him for his service,” she said.
