Cancer Support Center hosts first ‘Survivor Camp’ on Sept. 16

The Cancer Support Center is hosting its first Survivor Camp on Saturday, Sept. 16, designed to give information and tools for cancer survivors.

The free event is open to anyone who has battled or is currently battling cancer. Caregivers are welcome to join and take part in the sessions as well.

The event will be held at the conference center at Prairie State College, 202 Halsted St. in Chicago Heights. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Guest speakers include Rev. Carl Williamson of Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Betsy Campione of Balance Fitness for Life, and Liz Gold of Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment.

There will be a resource fair for participants to gather information regarding potential beneficial services.

“The first ever Survivor Camp is all about embracing the new norm that any cancer diagnosis forces on survivors. Our goal at this conference is to give survivors the information and tools they need to have the highest quality of life during and after cancer,” said Sue Armato, executive director of the Cancer Support Center.

“With recognized medical speakers and others at this free event, we look forward to having survivors from throughout the Chicago area come and learn how to move forward, away from pain and hurt,” Armato said. “Planned by our very own survivors at the center, you can bet that the topics will be relevant and impactful.”
