“Be a Super Hero” is the theme for the Oct. 1 Cancer Support Center’s Fall Walk of Hope.

The annual fundraiser supports the center’s programs and resources, which are provided at no charge to anyone living with a cancer diagnosis, as well as to their loved ones. The goal this year is $100,000.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the walk kicking off at 9 a.m. This year, supporters will gather at the Cancer Support Center’s office, 2028 Elm Road in Homewood.

Both the start time and location are new this year.

Participants are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite super hero in keeping with the theme of being “a super hero for those fighting cancer.”

Registration for the walk is $30 for those 15 and older and $15 for children ages 5 to 14. There are new and exciting fundraising incentive levels that allow participants to earn Cancer Support Center branded items, according to organizers. This year’s route will feature games, refreshments and more.

“We are so excited to partner with the village of Homewood and have our fall walk kicking off right in front our Homewood location. Moving our Fall Walk of Hope to the center gives walkers the opportunity to see exactly why they are walking and what their donations help to support,” said Sue Armato, the center’s executive director.

The center is a community-based, volunteer-driven, donor-supported organization. Programs, resources and services are delivered by professional therapists, counselors, nutritional educators and experts, and are provided at no cost to participants at the Homewood location and at 19657 S. LaGrange Road, in Mokena.

Registration information is at www.cancersupportcenter.org and click on the Fall Walk of Hope logo.
