Applications being accepted for Homewood school board’s open seat

The Homewood District 153 school board held a special meeting Monday, May 1, to elect officers and declare a vacancy on the board.

Shelly Marks will continue as board president. Alex Bosch was elected vice president and Gregory Lawrence will serve as secretary.

Marks then declared a vacancy after she received notification that member Steve Anderson resigned his position. He was sworn in Monday as a new member and president of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School board.

The person selected to fill Anderson’s District 153 seat will serve for two years.

Marks said anyone 18 or older who meets basic criteria on residency and personal qualifications is eligible to apply. The district also asks several questions of applicants, including what the role of the school board should be, and what challenges does District 153 face in the next five years.

Applications delivered by 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, will be reviewed and the board will schedule interviews with applicants.

The application is available online. Applications can either be emailed to[email protected] or delivered as a written application to the District 153 administrative office at 18205 Aberdeen St.
Questions on the responsibilities of a board member or the school board can be sent to Marks via email at [email protected]
