Foundation 153’s Spring for Homewood Schools Gala set for April 8

Foundation 153, a volunteer group helping to fund programs in Homewood School District 153, is hosting its 12th annual Spring for Homewood Schools Gala benefit on April 8.

The program at Idlewild Country Club, 19200 Dixie Highway in Flossmoor, begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception featuring a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and raffles. A plated dinner and program begins at 7 p.m.

Rita Davenport, president of Foundation 153, said this year the event will feature electronic bidding giving guests the chance to use their smartphones or other electronic devices. It also is expected to speed up checkout, she said.

The newly established Foundation 153 Presidents Award will be presented to Churchill School Principal Cece Coffey and Willow School Principal Mary Ann Savage. They are retiring at the end of the school year.

All proceeds for the benefit help underwrite District 153 needs not covered by the annual budget.  Davenport said the foundation made a gift this school year for the Smart Lab at James Hart School. In the 2014-15 school year the foundation helped underwrite training sessions for teachers.

There is a $60 charge for the event. For additional information on the event or on silent auction bidding, visit www.foundation153.org.
