Kids can ring in the new year at Homewood’s Noon Year’s Eve celebration

Foundation 153, a volunteer group helping to fund programs in Homewood School District 153, is hosting its 12th annual Spring for Homewood Schools Gala benefit on April 8. The program at Idlewild Country Club, 19200 Dixie Highway in Flossmoor, begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception featuring a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and raffles. A plated dinner and program begins at 7 p.m. Rita Davenport, president of Foundation 153, said this year the event will feature electronic bidding giving guests the chance to use their smartphones or other electronic devices. Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Homewood 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, then follows Ridge Road to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
  • Flossmoor 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and ends downtown, where there will be fun activities.
