Kids mark Brabec Day in District 153

When Tom Brabec stepped down in 2015 from the District 153 school board after having served for 18 years, his fellow board members declared each year a day of service in Homewood schools would be known as Tom Brabec Day.

  for the needy.

This year, students spent time the week of Nov. 14 collecting food for the Thornton Food Pantry. The drive was led by the Junior National Honor Society at James Hart School.

At Churchill School, students spent time making care packages of personal health items to be distributed by Suburban Access.

Brabec may have stepped away from board duties, but he still loves walking through the schools high-fiving kids and sharing encouraging words.

His most recent volunteer effort was serving on the Citizens for Homewood Schools committee working to pass a school referendum in spring 2016.
