When people congregate on Martin Avenue in Homewood for the Holiday Lights Festival on Friday, the storefront windows will help set the mood, thanks to the weekend work of two Homewood-Flossmoor High School artists.

Nina Harris and Lucy Sloan, both seniors, were enlisted by the village to paint winter scenes on the south side storefront windows of the Triumph Building at 2033 Ridge . . .

Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
