District 153 board sets special meeting for Aug. 15 on referendum’s bonds

Opera and food are like a fine duet.

Members of the Chicago Lyric Opera Chorus will bring the delights to life through food and the operatic music it inspired in a special “Music and Food Around the World” program at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University.

The host for this event is Homewood resident and Lyric Chorus member Michael Cavalieri who will be joined by his colleagues Desirée Hassler, John Concepcion of Flossmoor, Pamela Williams and Dan Richardson on stage.

Their repertoire includes music relating to food from Germany, Finland, Romania, Spain, Wales, Norway, Czech Republic, Russia, France, Ireland and Italy. Guests will get delicious items to sample from some of these countries. Cavalieri calls it a trip around the world in 90 minutes.

Guests are seated on the stage, creating an intimate setting with the singers.

This performance is part of the center’s “Opera Up Close” programming bringing local artists from the Lyric Opera to the South Suburbs. A portion of the program funding is provided by The Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.

Tickets are $53 and include sampling of food and wine. Tickets can be ordered by phone at 708-235-2222 or online at CenterTickets.net or at the box office at Governors State University, Stuenkel Road just east of Governors Highway in University Park.
