Three Homewood-Flossmoor High School students won the right to compete at the Illinois High School Association’s State Finals in Speech this weekend in Peoria.
The meet brings together students from across Illinois who have gone through numerous rounds of competition. H-F students won at the IHSA Sectional competition Feb. 13 at Reavis High School.
Moving on to state competition is sectional tournament champion Rashun Carter who qualified in the poetry reading category. Joining her will be sectional third place winners Aundria LaNier in dramatic interpretation and Gianmarco Petrelli in prose reading.
The H-F speech team took fourth place honors at sectional from the 30 teams in competition.
Students who took honors in the final rounds were:
Maggie Colton and Rashun Carter, fifth in dramatic duet acting
Malina Wordlaw, fifth in extemporaneous speaking
Gianmarco Petrelli and Joey Cipriano, fifth in humorous duet acting
Maggie Colton, fifth in impromptu speaking
Anthony Davis, seventh in informative speaking
Andre Thomas, fifth in oratorical declamation
Sydney DuBose, fifth in original comedy
Mikey Ruiz, fifth in radio speaking, sixth in original oratory
Performance in the Round cast placed fifth
Also competing in the preliminary rounds were Andre Thomas in special occasion speaking and Taylor Wicks in humorous interpretation.
