The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Speech Team took third place in the Thornridge Tree Speech Tournament Dec. 6, according to a story in the Homewood-Flossmoor FYI.
It wasn’t the first successful outing of the season. The team won the South West Suburban Conference Novice Conference Tournament on Nov. 25, according to Janine Stroemer, speech team head coach.
“We have been Red Division Champions for 10 of the 11 years at the Novice Level,” she said.
The varsity will compete Saturday, Dec. 20. The varsity team has been the Red Division Champions at that level every year since its inception, Stroemer said.
“I am very proud of these students and their work,” she said.

- Daj’za Mitchell — second place
- Marlene Slaughter — third place
- Sydney DuBose — fourth place
- Mikey Ruiz — fourth place
- Jabari Khaliq — fifth place
- Taylor Wicks — fifth place
- Aundria Lanier — sixth place
- Andre Thomas — sixth place.
Finalists included Kennedy Chandler, Joey Cipriano, Maggie Colton, Allie Mangel and Katria Muse.
The team will host the IHSA Regional tournamen on Feb. 7.
