Flossmoor this week introduced three new employees and announced promotions for two other village staff members.

Christopher Paicely is Flossmoor’s marketing coordinator and Laura Brennan-Levy is the village’s program and event coordinator. Both were hired recently and will work 20 hours a week.

Dave Becker will serve as the village’s forestry maintenance technician. He formerly worked for the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District in a similar capacity.

Two promotions in the Public Works Department were also announced at Monday’s Flossmoor Village Board meeting. All five of the employees appeared at the session.

Ken Schmidt has been promoted to public works foreman. He was formerly a maintenance worker in the department.

Josh Evans was promoted to the position of full-time maintenance worker. He was formerly a part-time mechanic.

Assistant Village Manager Allison Deitch said Paicely will be responsible for coordinating Flossmoor’s print and electronic communications with the community, managing the municipal website and working with departments on content and building the village’s social media presence.

Flossmoor does not have any social media pages and Paicely has already started working on village offerings on Facebook and Instagram, Deitch said.

Paicely has experience in freelance media and public relations, most recently with the city of Chicago Heights and Bloom Township High School District 205. He formerly worked as a journalist for the Patch online newspaper. He is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

“During the interview process, it was clear that Chris brought a ton of creativity and experience in social media and videography,” Deitch said. “We’ve already been able to benefit from his expertise – he designed our ‘Pull Up a Chair’ program guide and has jumped into writing the winter newsletter.”

As program and event coordinator, Brennan-Levy serves as the staff liaison to the Community Relations Commission, Art Commission and Green Committee. Deitch said she’ll also take a lead role in planning Flossmoor Fest, Recyclepalooza, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and other community events.

Brennan-Levy has a background in corporate human resources and an MBA from DePaul University. She has also been an active volunteer in Flossmoor, serving on the board at the Cancer Support Center, as a volunteer in Flossmoor School District 161 and, most recently, as chair of the Community Relations Commission.

In other business Monday, the village board approved appointments to the Police Pension Board and Commission Relations Commission.

Robert Bramlette and Mark Karstrom were appointed to to the Police Pension Board.

Kris Cortes and Phillippa Leon-Thompson were appointed to the Community Relations Commission.
