Amtrak officials gave a glimpse of what improvements will be made to the Homewood station following a ribbon cutting ceremony for the project on Sept. 28.
Amtrak and Metra are primarily responsible for construction, and the two agencies have partnered with the village of Homewood, Cook County, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and the Federal Transit Agency for funding.
ComEd has been involved in work rerouting power lines to enable the project to proceed.
Metra's design for the renovation of the Homewood train station was approved by the Homewood Appearance Commission at its Aug. 6 meeting.
The commission also approved designs for a new facade at Walmart and signage at the future site of Aspen Dental.
Penny Greep, 9, ace bibliophile of Homewood, forms a book club, the first for Bookie's Homewood store. ComEd moves power lines on Park Avenue, a prerequisite to the renovation work on the west side of the Homewood train station, and John Beele gets more signatures on his Iwo Jima veterans flag.
