Scholarship created to benefit LGBTQ students, allies from H-F

With longevity in mind, the founders of nonprofit organization Lighthouse LGBTQ have developed a scholarship fund that will help local graduates headed for higher education.

The Lighthouse LGBTQ Scholarship is a $1,000 award that will be presented to a student graduating from Homewood-Flossmoor High School who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer, or their allies, and works to increase visibility for the LGBTQ community.

Lighthouse LGBTQ hosts program about new inclusive Illinois school curriculum

Lighthouse LGBTQ is hosting a special program and discussion on Wednesday, Oct. 16, about the Illinois Inclusive Curriculum bill passed by the Illinois legislature this spring. Guest speaker will be Victor Salvo, co-founder and executive director of The Legacy Project in Chicago. Guests are invited to come to the Flossmoor Community Church sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. for time to visit with others before the 7 p.m. program.
