Like many things in this world, The Sunshine Kitchen was born out of necessity. The healthy food booth was created by two patrons of Homewood’s farmers market who saw a need for more healthy food options.

Beans & Greens will be closing soon. The board of the South Suburban Food Co-op, which operates the store at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood, announced Oct. 15 that the store did not have the level of support from the community necessary to meet expenses.

The South Suburban Food Co-op will hold its annual meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 18850 Riegel Road, Homewood. Organizers suggest using the side entrance on Idlewild Lane. The co-op recently moved its health food store to downtown Homewood.
