Homewood-East Hazel Crest site still in running for south suburban casino

It’s down to two.

Wind Creek Illinois, which hopes to build a casino on property in Homewood and East Hazel Crest, made the cut on Wednesday as the Illinois Gaming Board continued the process of selecting a site for a south suburban casino.

Also still in the running is a proposed casino in Matteson that would be operated by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

Proposals for sites in Calumet City and Lynwood were eliminated by the board.

Wind Creek Hospitality President and CEO Jay Dorris welcomed the decision.

“Wind Creek Illinois is excited to have been selected by the Illinois Gaming Board to advance to the next stage of negotiations for the south suburban casino license,” he said. “This development promises to be the best in and for the entire Southland region — with job creation, economic and community investment, sustained operational excellence, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in all phases of construction and operation.”

All four candidates for the south suburban casino license made presentations to the board on Oct. 13.
