Pedestrian dies Tuesday in traffic accident on Governors Highway

A 74-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed early Tuesday, Oct. 19, according to Homewood police.

The accident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. in the area of Governors Highway and Dolphin Lake Drive.

Officers said the victim was struck by a gray KIA Forte, which had been traveling southbound on Governors Highway. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family members, police said.

The driver of the Kia was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The circumstances of the crash are under investigation by the Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit with assistance from the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team (SMART).
