Ingalls temporarily closes Flossmoor urgent aid service in response to COVID-19 surge

UChicago Medicine at Ingalls – Flossmoor 19550 Governors Highway, will temporarily close its Urgent Aid location on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 7 a.m.

The closure is due to unprecedented demand across the health care provider’s network because of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases.

The health care system is consolidating services to conserve limited resources, according to Randy Neiswonger, president of UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital and Kristine Shields, director of Urgent Aid Services.

The closure will be re-evaluated on a 24- to 48-hour basis.

Staff from the Flossmoor Urgent Aid will be moved temporarily to UChicago Medicine Urgent Aid locations at Calumet City and Tinley Park, which are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to care for patients in those locations.

The move only applies to Urgent Aid services, which include things like sprains, ear infections and other relatively low-level emergencies, not the facility as a whole. The rest of the facility will remain open for established patients with non-urgent medical needs.
