Cancer Support Center’s ‘RISE UP’ telethon is Sunday

The traditional fundraiser is taking a new approach from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 17, when the Cancer Support Center hosts “RISE UP,” a virtual telethon.

Funds will help support the free programs and services offered to anyone battling cancer in the South Suburbs. Tune in to this event by visiting www.cancersupportcenter.org or through the Cancer Support Center Facebook page.

The “RISE UP” online fundraiser and celebration will include special guest video appearances from Roz Varon of ABC 7, and Eddie Olczyk, former Chicago Blackhawk and now a game announcer.

There will be musical performances by Sean & Charlie and Billy Hogan, as well as appearances from bands and choirs from local area high schools. The event will also feature cooking demonstrations, exercise routines and many more exciting highlights.

Despite the catastrophic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cancer Support Center has met the challenge by converting to online programming.

The center is serving participants using remote and virtual tools and providing support to community members through collaborative programs, while keeping participants connected to resources that foster inner peace, daily strength and caring comfort.

Licensed therapists are available for phone consultations and email check-ins, as well as support group video conferencing meetings via Zoom.

Even as the online programming services continue to meet the diverse needs of CSC participants, the necessity to raise funds during these difficult times is a reality. The center must continue fundraising efforts in order to provide the critical support services that are needed now more than ever, said Bob DeChene, board president.

“In order to continue providing these critical services in the months to come, we really need your financial donation today. Please RISE UP and support The Center,” he said.
