The Village of Flossmoor Board of Trustees approved accepting the donation of the steel sculpture “Land Jacks,” allowing the artwork to remain permanently in the village’s public art collection.
The sculpture, created by New Lenox artist Jason Verbeek, has been displayed in Leavitt Park since 2022 through Flossmoor’s rotational public art program. The Corten steel piece, valued at $15,000, had been on loan under a lease agreement set to expire this summer.
Village officials said the donation came from the Frankfort Arts Association, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting local artists and promoting public art. According to village documents, the organization originally intended to donate the sculpture to Frankfort, but after that offer was declined, Verbeek suggested the association consider donating it to Flossmoor instead.

The Flossmoor Public Art Commission unanimously voted on May 18 to recommend accepting the donation. Village documents stated there would be no additional cost to Flossmoor because the sculpture will remain in its existing location in the park.
A resolution approved by the Village Board notes that Flossmoor established its Sculpture Gardens program in 1998 and has since built a permanent collection of public artwork displayed throughout the community. The resolution describes “Land Jacks” as “an amazing addition” to the collection and formally accepts the donation on behalf of the village.
An intergovernmental agreement with the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is expected to follow the approval, according to village records.
