Firefighters battle blaze in Homewood on Saturday night

Homewood firefighters responded to a fire shortly after 8 p.m. in the 2200 block of Maple Road on Saturday, March 7.

Deputy Fire Chief Steve DeJong said residents were not home when the fire broke out and there were no injuries in the incident.

There was extensive fire damage to the second floor of the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. 

Crews were on the scene for about two hours. Firefighters from Flossmoor, Hazel Crest, Markham, Country Club Hills and Glenwood assisted.
