Flossmoor Public Library Closure. The library will be closed Monday, Feb. 16, for the Presidents Day holiday.
Student Election Judges Needed. Cook County Clerk’s Office is seeking eligible students to serve as election judges. Students must be U.S. citizens, be a junior or senior in high school or be a student in college, have at least a 3.0 grade point average, get written approval from a parent or guardian and school principal. Monday, Feb. 16
Candidate Debate. Candidates for Illinois 2nd Congressional District will debate from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at South Suburban College Performing Arts Center, 15800 State St. in South Holland.
Presidents Day Rally. Action for a Better Tomorrow will hold a rally from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Homewood Veterans Memorial at Harwood Avenue and Olive Road to peacefully protest Trump administration immigration and other policies.
Soup’s on for Equity. Center for Food Equity in Medicine will host a fundraiser from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor, featuring soups created by several acclaimed chefs. Tickets are available here.
Valuable Voices. The teen group formerly Adolescent Activists will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. in The Fort at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Do you want your voice to be heard? Rising Readers. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host story time from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in Rauch Reading Room for ages newborn to 6 years old with stories, songs, bubbles and more. Register here.
Makerspace Days. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., invites teens to visit The Attic from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to make earrings, sew a squishy or create something completely new in the Makerspace. There will be a focused activity for anyone looking for a little inspiration, but you can come up with your own project, too.
Bingo for Teens. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host bingo for teens in the FORT upstairs from 6 to 7 p.m. There will be prizes for winners.
Youth Chess Club. Beyond the Book, 18063 Dixie Highway, will host its weekly chess club for youth of all ages from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Project Sew. From 4:30 to 6 p.m. through March 11 at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood, review the sewing basics and build more confidence learning a variety of stiches. A Love-ish Conversation: Romance, Reality, and Everything in Between. Beyond the Book, 18063 Dixie Highway, will host a fireside-style experience from 6:30 to 9 p.m. with Christal Luster and Mike Speaks will explore the many dimensions of modern relationships, romance, personal growth, communication, and the realities that shape love today. 1619: The Journey of a People, The Musical. A musical performance and a history lesson by Ted Williams III will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. The performance commemorates the struggles, recognizes the heroes and critically analyzes the American journey towards freedom and equality. Lost Girl. The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Theatre Program will present “Lost Girl,” a story of coming-of-age exploration of first love and lasting loss. Improv Class. A workshop for adults from 10 to 11 a.m. in the meeting room at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Ever wondered how “Saturday Night Live” skits come together? This club is designed for beginners of all abilities who are interested in learning improv. Neurodiverse participants, seniors, newbies and experienced actors welcome.

Advanced Computer Class for Adults: Advanced Excel. Adults can learn how to make pivot tables and charts in Excel. The class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon in Helen Wilson Meeting Room at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. The library provides students with laptops for this class. Please do not bring your own device. Individualized instruction may not be possible. This class is facilitated by Dr. Kristine Condon, a Microsoft Certified Educator. Candidate Forum. Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois League of Women Voters will host a candidate forum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Moraine Valley Community College, 9000 W. Thursday, Feb. 26
Thornton Distillery Tour. Participants will meet at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood, at 6 p.m. For anyone age 21 or older. This will be a chance to step inside Illinois’ oldest standing brewery. Trip will include distillery tour, a meal and transportation to and from Irwin Center. Izaak Walton General Meeting. The meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. at Izaak Walton Preserve, 1100 Ridge Road, will feature a presentation by Tristan Shaw, the owner of Possibility Place, on native gardens and native plants. Free milkweed seed packets will be available.

All That Jazz. The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park, will present “All That Jazz,” a high-energy celebration of American dance — past, present and future. The event will showcase choreography and dance by talented students, faculty, and alumni from Governors State University’s Theatre and Performance Studies and Dance Company. Saturday, April 4
H-F Community Cleanup Day. The H-F Park District and the villages of Homewood and Flossmoor are collaborating on one big communitywide clean-up day from 8 a.m. to noon. The event will begin with breakfast at Wiley’s Grill, 800 Kedzie Ave., then individuals and groups will fan out to tidy up. Sign up here.

Walk Through Our Mission. You Matter 2 will host an immersive evening at Flossmoor Community Church, that introduces the organization’s work with youth through storytelling, creativity and connection. Guests will journey through interactive stations led by students, alumni and volunteers, experiencing firsthand how You Matter 2 supports youth from middle school through career readiness. The evening will conclude with a Spotlight Program featuring student stories, a live auction, and a collective paddle raise, which is a fundraising practice that attendees to raise their bidder paddles to commit to specific donation levels, to support our programs.
