Call for Art. Homewood Creative Alliance is seeking contributions of art to be displayed and up for auction as part of the Spotlight Performance Academy’s Songs of Resistance Concert on April 11. Proceeds from the event will go to the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. Send a description of the artwork with a sketch or visual representation to [email protected]. Deadline is March 10. Final artwork to be completed by April 3.
Art & Garden Street Fair. The Village of Homewood is seeking niche, one-of-a-kind vendors for the annual Art & Garden Street Fair, June 5-6. The application deadline is March 1. Art & Garden Vendor Application.
Formal Dress Essentials Collection. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will be collecting new or gently-used prom or party dresses and menswear that will be used for the Teen Formal Dance Essentials Giveaway. Other items needed are dress shoes, clutch purses, jewelry and unopened makeup/nail polish. Donations will be accepted from Feb. 1-28. Bring donations to the Adult Library Services desk.

Monday, Feb. 9
Slime Scientists. From 4 to 5 p.m. slime scientists in grades kindergarten through sixth will take over the meeting room at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. The library will supply slime ingredients. Register here.
Art in S.T.E.A.M. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host from 4 to 5 p.m. a chance for tweens and teens to embrace their creative side while exploring the art aspect of STEAM. Other elements of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) also will be incorporated in some projects. Registration required.
Just For Fun: Trivia. Adult trivia buffs will gather from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, to stretch their brains in this pub-style quiz contest.

Rising Readers. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host story time from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in Rauch Reading Room for ages newborn to 6 years old with stories, songs, bubbles and more. Register here.
Stitches and Shenanigans. Bring your fiber arts projects to the meeting room in Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway from 6 to 8 p.m.
Nailed It!: Valentine Cookie Edition. Kids aged 9 to 14 are invited to the Helen Wilson Meeting Room at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., from 6 to 7 p.m. for the library’s cookie challenge inspired by the baking show Nailed It! The library will provide pre-baked cookies, decorating supplies and a mystery design to recreate.
Homewood Stories. The monthly storytelling show will feature five storytellers at Flossmoor Community Church Community House, 847 Hutchison Road. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7:30 p.m. Guests are invited to bring their own treats and drinks. Admission is $15 (in cash) at the door.

Galentine’s Day Lunch at the English Room. Galentine’s Day is a day dedicated to celebrating female friendships. Gather your dearest friends for an unforgettable celebration at the historic and charming Deerpath Inn. Senior Social Hour: Homewood’s Gottschalks and the Incorporation of Flossmoor. Did you know that Homewood’s Gottschalk family sold downtown Flossmoor to the Illinois Central Railroad? Hearti-Gras BYOB Bingo. It’s Mardi Gras. It’s Valentine’s Day. It’s a BYOB Bingo Identity Crisis from 7 to 9 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. BYOB and snacks, and enjoy a fun Adults Only BINGO night with progressive cash prizes. Bingo cards are $5 per game and $2 per additional card (cash only). Five games will be played. Move-Along Storytime. Youngsters age 3 to 8 who love stories, movement and a little imagination are invited to the meeting room in Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway from 11 to 11:30 a.m.
Lunar New Year Celebration. From 10 a.m. to noon Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a Lunar New Year Celebration. There will be different stations around the Youth Services area where guests can learn about the celebration, make a fun craft and take a family picture. The celebration will end with a parade throughout the second floor with noise makers and masks.
Can I Call You Rose? A Place of Zen, 18360 Governors Highway in Homewood, and Quietstorm present a night of Valentine’s comedy with two shows, one at 5 p.m. and one at 8 p.m. More information and tickets here.

Soup’s on for Equity. Center for Food Equity in Medicine will host a fundraiser from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor, featuring soups created by several acclaimed chefs. Tickets are available here.
Presidents Day Rally. Action for a Better Tomorrow will hold a rally from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Homewood Veterans Memorial at Harwood Avenue and Olive Road to peacefully protest Trump administration immigration and other policies.
Wednesday, Feb. 18
Project Sew. From 4:30 to 6 p.m. through March 11 at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood, review the sewing basics and build more confidence learning a variety of stiches. Candidate Forum. Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois League of Women Voters will host a candidate forum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Moraine Valley Community College, 9000 W. Walk Through Our Mission. You Matter 2 will host an immersive evening at Flossmoor Community Church, that introduces the organization’s work with youth through storytelling, creativity and connection. Guests will journey through interactive stations led by students, alumni and volunteers, experiencing firsthand how You Matter 2 supports youth from middle school through career readiness. The evening will conclude with a Spotlight Program featuring student stories, a live auction, and a collective paddle raise, which is a fundraising practice that attendees to raise their bidder paddles to commit to specific donation levels, to support our programs.
