Beginning Jan. 16, viewers can tune in on their phones or other devices to watch Governors State University events, including sports and commencement, via a new app.
The Educator TV app will deliver content directly, allowing the community to stay connected while also showcasing the university’s talent and full-service media studios.
Josh Young, director of the department of digital learning and media design, said, “We are thrilled to be entering the new era of media distribution that allows us to deliver programming to the Governors State University community and beyond. Most of the content on the app will be produced by DLMD, including live broadcasts of athletics teams — produced by students in our Sports Broadcasting Internship Program. We’ll also be streaming major University events like Commencement, offering students and their families more opportunities to share in the excitement of their achievements at GovState.”
The Educator TV, an over-the-top (OTT) app, will serve as a distribution hub for a wide range of on-demand content, including the University’s flagship weekly news program, This Week at GovState, award-winning telecourses, the acclaimed Respond to Violence series, and additional programming.
Although the app will launch with a limited catalogue, plans are in place to offer it as a distribution platform for media produced by students in the Media Studies and Film programs, as well as local municipalities.
“With The Educator TV app, Governors State University sets the stage for a new era of visibility, innovation, and hands-on learning, positioning the University to share its stories, achievements, and impact on a global platform,” Young said.
