Just in time for the holiday season, The Drama Group presents “A Christmas Story” as a musical adaptation of the beloved 1966 story by writer Jean Shepard.
The show is being presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6, and again at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11, 12 and 13. The matinee performances at 2 p.m. will be Sunday, Dec. 7, and again Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 13 and 14 at The Drama Group, 330 W. 202nd St. in Chicago Heights.

The story focuses on the misadventures of Ralphie Parker and his family as they prepare for Christmas in 1940. Ralphie hopes for an air rifle, but his request is turned down, so he plots how he can get the BB gun. There are plenty of laughs, as Ralphie’s friend, Flick, gets his tongue stuck to the flagpole, the actions of the neighborhood bullies. Don’t forget the leg lamp award, the bunny suit and Christmas dinner.
The musical score has everything from gentle ballads to show-stopping full-ensemble numbers, such as “Ralphie to the Rescue,” “Sticky Situation” and “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out!”
Cast members include Aegie Rah’man, Justus Edwards, Sadie Montoya, Mariko Takaoka, Harper Stennis and Rowan Willard-Rose, all of Flossmoor. J.R. Willard-Rose, Nazzy Stennis and Brandon Willard-Rose are with the adult ensemble.
Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors and members of the military, and $18 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at BookTix Ticketing, https://dg.booktix.com. There is a service fee for online ticketing. Tickets are also available through the Drama Group box office at 708-754-3444.
