Several local residents posted reports on social media that possible Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were seen in Homewood and Glenwood between about noon and 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25.
One report included a photo showing a masked man dressed similarly to what ICE agents wore in other media reports from Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., enforcement operations.
The residents reported seeing the agents in the 18000 block of Halsted Street in Homewood and the 900 block of Arquilla Drive in Glenwood.
A Homewood police spokeswoman said the department had been made aware of the social media reports, but HPD officers had not been contacted by ICE agents.
“We are not able to confirm whether they were here or not,” Deputy Chief Kelly Strayer said.
Homewood officials have confirmed in the past that police will observe state law if ICE conducts operations in the village. State law prevents local police from collaborating with immigration enforcement operations with limited exceptions.
