Homewood Public Library Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, in the library, 17917 Dixie Highway. The agenda will be available here.

Youth Karate. Wednesdays from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. or 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. for kids aged 4 to 6 through Oct. 8 at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. Students will get a good workout while developing coordination, confidence, self-discipline and self- defense. This program can advance students through the belt rank certification process. Gis (karate uniforms) are not required but are available from the instructor for a $30 fee. Certification for ranking belts is available upon completion of requirements at an additional fee. Class fee $69 for H-F Park District residents, $84 for non-residents. Click here to register.

Young Writer’s Club. Anyone in grades 6 through 12 who is interested in writing can join the club to share, learn and write. The next meeting is from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Registration is preferred but not required.
