Flossmoor’s National Night Out to feature touch-a-truck, tours, face painting, free immunizations

The Village of Flossmoor will host its annual National Night Out and Touch-a-Truck free event from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the village hall lot, 2800 Flossmoor Road. National Night Out is a nationwide initiative that encourages residents to come together in support of crime prevention and community engagement.

This year, individuals and families will have the opportunity to explore Flossmoor police, fire and public works vehicles up close, as well as talk with the professionals who keep Flossmoor safe all year long.

The police department will offer tours of its station, and the fire department will provide a fire sprinkler demonstration.

Kids will enjoy games, a bounce house from the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District and face painting provided by the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team.

All are invited to participate in the traditional Flossmoor water balloon toss.

Weather permitting, the event may also include a special visit from a medical helicopter, across Flossmoor Road at the open space at Parker Junior High School.

New this year, Flossmoor will welcome the Cook County Department of Public Health for free back-to-school immunizations and vaccinations for the general public. They will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. inside the village hall board room. Walk-ins will be accepted; a parent or guardian must be present for children receiving vaccines. No registration or insurance is required.

“It’s a night of hands-on fun, community pride and public safety appreciation that you won’t want to miss,” said Stephanie Wright, Flossmoor community engagement manager.

The event is sponsored by ComEd. For more information, visit www.Flossmoor.org.
