You Matter 2 Back to School Bash. A day full of fun, resources and celebration will get students ready for the new school year. The free event from 1 to 3 p.m. will be at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. There will be free backpacks and school supplies (while supplies last and child must be present), food trucks, local vendors and community organizations, music, games and raffles.

School Supplies Drive. A back-to-school supplies drive will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church, 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood. Donations can be placed in bags or boxes of a car trunk for the drive-thru collection. Requested supplies include: clear backpacks, 24-pack crayons, colored markers, colored pencils, blue and black ink pens, spiral notebooks, three-ring binders, two-pocket folders, highlighters, post-it notes, notebook/looseleaf paper, #2 pencils, pencil cases, pencil sharpeners and glue sticks. Donations will be distributed to children served by South Suburban PADS and communities served by St. Vincent DePaul Conference at St. John Neumann. H-F Band Car Wash. Band students, parents and friends will be washing cars for a suggested donation (cash and credit cards accepted) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Homewood-Flossmoor High School North Building, 800 Governors Highway. All proceeds will benefit the marching band. 

Branch Chipping. Homewood Public Works will accept branches up to six inches in diameter (no pine or other evergreen, no shrub trimmings, no leaves or bags or super wrapped bundles) at the Municipal Service Center, 17755 Ashland Ave., from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 708-206-3470.

Homewood Outdoor Farmers Market. The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Martin Square on Martin Avenue between Chestnut and Ridge roads in downtown Homewood. Vendors will offer fresh produce, baked goods, handcrafted jewelry, skincare and more. Food trucks will be on hand and ready-to-eat meals will be available.

STEM Saturday. Science play and learning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway.

Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. Riders of all experience levels can join the group which leaves at 8 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. in Homewood. There is a no-drop group that rides about 20 miles and stronger riders sometimes go farther. Helmets required, daytime lights strongly recommended.

Off-leash Ride. A leisurely just-riding-around nine-mile ride every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St., at 8:30 a.m. sharp, ends back at the shop 9:45ish for donuts.
